Typical condition of eastern Sonoma Mountain Road in the rainy season

Thanks to the strong and steady advocacy of our community, we now have some good news to share. On July 10, a group of neighbors met with Supervisor Rebecca Hermosillo and Public Works Director Johannes Hoevertsz to discuss the long-overdue need for repairs to Sonoma Mountain Road. The conversation was productive, respectful, and solution-focused — and most importantly, our concerns were heard.
The outcome: the County has committed to repaving the most deteriorated section of Sonoma Mountain Road — from Enterprise Road to Mountain Meadow — in 2027. This adjustment will be made by redirecting resources from other planned projects in the next road repair cycle. While it does not yet cover the full three miles of roadway, this is a meaningful first step forward.
Supervisor Hermosillo emphasized that Sonoma County continues to invest more in road repair than any other county in California, but limited funding and rising construction costs mean projects must be prioritized within a two-year cycle, with safety and severity driving decisions. Our meeting underscored how important it is for residents to keep reporting issues and staying engaged, since those reports strongly influence which roads rise to the top of the list.
Of course, much work remains. About 1.5 miles of Sonoma Mountain Road will still need repair, and we will continue pressing for a comprehensive plan. But the fact that this critical portion is now on the schedule shows that persistence pays off.
This progress is the direct result of neighbors speaking up and staying engaged — both in public meetings and in private conversations. It is a reminder that advocacy works. If we keep working together, we can build on this momentum until the entire road is finally repaired.
NOTE: Squeaky wheels get the grease! It is super important that we report these issues when they happen so it shows up in the county's metrics. Here is the link to the site for reporting potholes and other road hazards.

It is also an app you can download to your phone which is very handy for reporting on the go when you see an issue. It uses GPS to add the location.
